“Do you believe ChatGPT is a threat to creative writers?”

When I started writing for pure fun at 13, everybody (adults) who read my work adored it. I got super excited one day, and privately told my most special readers to tell me one word from their hearts, and I would write to them on that word according to how I perceived them. Take note, I needed perception, I needed to somehow perceive them, to do that.

After I took a break from writing for a year and I started writing again, I became a bit unsure of myself, and would ask people to review my articles, and give me private feedback. Okay, candidly, I have never been unsure of myself, or my writing especially, I just wanted flattery feedback, so I could be motivated enough to write more stuff. I would carefully pick the reviewers to be people who didn’t know me, and had not experienced me in any capacity, shape, size, or form. I knew that experiencing me at all, could hugely impact the objectivity of the reviewer, even without them being aware.

I trust you to understand the line you just read, but I will give you an example still. If I was married, my husband would not make for a good reviewer, because already, his perception of me has been bought and paid for. A huge part of his review is subconsciously controlled by his lingering experiences of me. For example, I write an article about the guys making dangerous fast fashion, pointing out serious issues like Human Labour, Environmental Pollution, Chemical Harm, and I write in the next line that I didn’t purchase a slinky, red garment from the company. Now, while my husband understands that this is a serious issue, a part of his cerebrum drifts to the shadowy evenings of mountaineering, in Bali, two months ago, where I, always unprepared, didn’t bring my climbing outfit, and had to wear my “if things got a little sexy” extra red dress to the mountains with him; hugging my size, showing cleavage, high thigh slits, legs can only move two inches per second, and other annoying stuff. Although, I was a problem in that moment, because he had to always give me a hand in my inconvenient fit, all through the activity. And he was upset that I greatly slowed him down, I know he enjoyed that dress, because, of-course I figured that out later in the night as the dark progressed. (He didn’t tell me, he showed me.). His mind is unconsciously stimulated, he smiles, his brain then equates that to a good read, guess whose review is a 5 star, yes, mine. Heavy sigh! Also, there’s a reason why my dad would never see anything wrong with my writing, except for grammatical errors. His Prefrontal Cortex and Hippocampus just wouldn’t.

Creative writing like all other form of art is taste subjective. It must appeal to the emotions and taste of the consumer. The writers who are really great at selling out all their books and earning highly on their e-books know something you don’t. They study their fan base/readers and then make sure that their writing appeals to the emotions of this group (this means that they write what they perceive the group wants to read/hear in their mind). This may be the only place you will read this, but In addition, they introduce a very like-able personality to the media. This is the reason why, I have seen my friends adore a certain writer and their work, but I couldn’t read them past a page. This also goes for writers whom I figure their personality out earlier, before reading their work, if I like the person it’s just easier to enjoy their writing, if I don’t like them, I couldn’t.

What I’m on to, is that ChatGPT doesn’t care for your emotions. He’s a player. I’m joking. I mean ChatGPT put words together in a form that they think is statistically valid, but they don’t know if what they are saying is inspiring or appealing. That means you might find invented facts or details or other oddities. It won’t be able to create original work, because it is simply aggregating everything it has already absorbed.

So, to answer the question, if I believe ChatGPT is a threat to writers, It is. It is really a threat only to people who can’t write to begin with, which is, actually, many “writers” out there, but genuine writers don’t have anything at all to fear.. yet
